Pond5 media frequently makes appearances on TV screens around the world, and one of our favorite places to see it frequently pop up is HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Recently, Oliver used content from Pond5 to demonstrate its many uses in political campaigns.
The Judicial Crisis Network released a political ad targeting Republican voters, saying that their votes in November would determine the next Supreme Court Justice’s appointment. The ad is misleading, however, because it’s actually the sitting president’s job to make the appointment and get confirmation from the US Senate. Oliver plays with this message by revealing the versatility of the media used, showing that the exact same imagery can be used to make the opposite point. He then goes on to encourage ad makers to use “more interesting” clips, such as these Pond5 selections:
Businessman Listening to the Sea by fraxnet
Skeleton Disagrees with His Wife by probakster
To repay the favor of featuring us on his show, we decided to create our own spoof campaign video for Mr. Oliver himself. After all, isn’t it about time we make America funny again? Check out the video below.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had fun with fake political ads, by the way. In case you missed it, check out our campaign spots for your favorite Star Wars characters.
