World Wildlife Day
March 3, 2025
This annual global event champions wildlife conservation. The theme for 2025 is “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet,” highlighting the need for more funding, with over 1 million species at risk of extinction. Since the environment supports over half the world’s economy, biodiversity loss threatens financial stability. Thankfully, new partnerships and funding solutions offer hope.

COVID-19 Declared Global Pandemic
March 11, 2020
After COVID-19 spread to over 102 countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a global pandemic. The world could no longer respond with denial and disbelief as the virus rapidly spread, infecting people and overwhelming healthcare systems. This declaration called for urgent global action, leading countries to impose travel restrictions, lockdowns, and health measures to curb the spread.

International Day of Happiness
March 20, 2025
In 2012, the UN declared March 20 the International Day of Happiness, recognizing happiness and well-being as key goals for all people. On this day, the world focuses on finding a balanced approach to economic growth—promoting sustainable development, poverty eradication, and well-being. The resolution was initiated by Bhutan, a country that has prioritized happiness over income since the 1970s—famously favoring the Gross National Happiness (GNH) as a guiding principle, rather than Gross National Product (GNP).

First Star Laid on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
March 28, 1960
The first permanent star was laid at Hollywood and Gower, honoring Stanley Kramer, the director of films like High Noon and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Made of terrazzo (marble chips in concrete) with brass lettering and symbols—the design still used today—it was followed by 1,499 more over the next 16 months. Now stretching along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, the Walk features over 2,700 stars and is managed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
